2) Respect: My Body, My Rights and Bystander Intervention

Note: French/English simultaneous translation will be provided in this workshop only.

Over the past two years, we have seen an explosion of people, specifically women, stand up and say enough is enough, sexual harassment and violence is wrong. The workplace should be a healthy and safe environment; however, this is not always the case. We all play a vital role when members are facing difficulties in the workplace; this includes sexual misconduct, harassment and violence.

  • Help shed light on the history of the #MeToo movement and defining harassment and sexual misconduct
  • Cultivating an environment free of sexual misconduct, harassment and violence in the work place to a safe and respectful work environment
  • Understanding the duties, roles and responsibilities we have to each other and our members
  • Focus on prevention and remediation of harassment and sexual misconduct in Union shops

Facilitators:
Karina Lopez, UFCW International
Emmanuelle Lopez, UFCW Canada

3) Women Organizing to WIN

We all know that when women lead an organizing campaign, we win. In this workshop, we will hear from female leaders within the UFCW who are continuing to grow our union with campaigns that place women front and center.

  • How to get to 100% union signups in a Right To Work for Less state.
  • Using the power of social media to connect and win in a campaign
  • Building capacity for internal and external organizing campaigns with women leadership programs
  • Discover why focusing on women and family issues works and how to weave them into your own campaign

This workshop will have panel and group discussions to develop new strategies.

Facilitators:
Kasi Farrar, UFCW Local 21
Catherine Lelis, UFCW Canada Local 401
Patricia Recinos – AFL-CIO Organizing Institute

4) Women Emerging into Politics

Every day we hear how current elected officials are threatening to take away women’s rights we fought for years to gain. We count on elected officials we’ve supported to stand up for women’s rights. Yet who knows what is important to women and workers better than us. Have you thought about running for office? Are you ready for the challenge of running for office to bring the voice of women and workers to city councils, school boards, state or federal offices? Come hear from experts what it takes to win.

  • Understanding what it takes to run for office
  • Building your community leadership presence
  • Mapping your network of supporters and allies
  • Building a plan to win

Facilitators:
Nikki Kateman, RWDSU/UFCW 338
Tania Liu, UFCW Canada Local 1006A
